In early 2023, a scared mother made a phone call to her best friend. Her newly eighteen year old had just come out as trans, and they live in Texas.

Two months later, a plan was being put together to move their trans son to Washington State to find community and support with local organizations, in a state that, as of this writing, provides gender-affirming care and protections for those that provide it. 

In the process of planning, we found www.translegislation.com, a fantastic resource for tracking and following anti-trans bills across the US. What we discovered was that we were seeing what would become a 323% increase in anti-trans bills between 2021 and the end of 2023. It was then that we decided this planning can and should be done at scale. We can help plenty of youth, with the right support and partnerships. We got to work.

TransYouth Empowerment Collective became a Washington State nonprofit organization in October, 2023, and an IRS 501c3 non-profit organization in January, 2024. We are dedicated to providing cutting-edge resources and wrap-around services that uplift and support every trans youth.
